Governor of Kagawa Prefecture Keizo Hamada hails friendship with Kuwait
Governor of Japan's Kagawa Prefecture Keizo Hamada has expressed his gratitude to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the Kuwaiti people for their unstinted support in the wake of a quake-tsunami disaster in 2011, while praising the historical ties and friendship between the people of the two countries.
Hamada has made remarks during the visit to the southeastern prefecture by H.E. Abdulrahman Humood Al-Otaibi Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Japan, the Kuwaiti Embassy said Monday in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
Following the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami in March 2011 that left nearly 20,000 people dead or missing in country's northeast, upon directives of His Highness the Amir, Kuwait offered the donation of 5 million barrels of crude oil to Japan, equivalent to some USD 550 million, which was the largest contribution by any nations.
For his part, Al-Otaibi said the Kuwait-Japan relationship is a model for relations built on the basis of friendship and mutual cooperation and expressed hope that the strong ties between the two friendly peoples will be elevated to a new level.
During his three-day visit to Kagawa, the ambassador and his wife Jamila Al-Otaibi inspected historical monuments and educational and cultural sites, and met elementary school students. (end) mk.aa KUNA 181123 Nov 13NNNN
