Minister of Education and Higher Education and His Delegation Visit Kyoto, Tokyo to Attend Science and Technology Conferences
His Excellency Dr. Bader Al-Essa, Minister of Education and Higher Education took part in a three-day meeting of the Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum held in Kyoto from October 4 to 6, 2015. His Excellency Ambassador Abdul-Rahman Humood Al-Otaibi, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Japan and Mr. Yousef Al-Tarkit, Thrird Secretary at the Embassy, attended the Forum along with H.E. Minister’s accompanying delegation.
The forum was attended by some 1,000 global opinion leaders in science and technology, policy, business and media from about 100 countries to discuss current global science and technology issues and to build international networks.
During the period, the Kuwaiti Delegation attended various meetings and sessions. On the first day, H.E. Dr. Bader attended the Science and Technology Ministers' Roundtable Meeting and on the second day, the Minister made a presentation at the plenary session titled "Social Innovation for Sustainability" accompanied by the delegation members.
Ambassador Al-Otaibi, attended the events together with the Minister, highlighted the significance of participation of the delegation of the State of Kuwait to the forum by focusing on the historic ties between Kuwait and Japan in the fields of science and technology at various spheres of the economic and social foundations of the countries, such as environment, water, petrochemical and maritime resources.
Ambassador Al-Otaibi further praised the outstanding participation of the Minister to the series of events that left no-negligible impression to Japan and the world that Kuwait is keen to expand its frontiers of scientific advancement further by strengthening its intellectual and academic interactions with the rest of the world.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education Dr. Hamed Al-Azemi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education Dr. Haitham Al-Athari, and Secretary General of the Private Universities Council Dr. Habib Abul were also present at the forum.
Upon conclusion of the STS forum in Kyoto, the visiting Minister and his delegation traveled to Tokyo to attend a series of meetings of the Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (ICEF) aimed at promoting innovation in energy and the environment that launched on October 7.
The two-day conference hosted by the Japanese government was attended by more than 1,000 researchers, business leaders and policymakers from around the world to share their vision and establish partnerships for lasting global reduction in greenhouse gases through innovative low-carbon technologies. Dr. Al-Essa delivered a speech later in the day at a plenary session on future perspective of addressing climate change through innovation.
In Tokyo, Ambassador Al-Otaibi hosted a dinner reception in honor of the Minister and the delegation members. Mr. Meshari Al-Homoud, Representative, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, as well as other Kuwaitis residents and students in Japan were invited to the dinner.
From the Embassy of the State of Kuwait in Tokyo Mr. Hamad Al-Mulla, First Secretary, Mr. Mohammed AlOthman, Third Secretary and Mr. Yousef Al-Tarkit, Third Secretary joined the Ambassador and welcomed the delegation.
