Kuwait embassi in tokyo hold Nat''l, Liberation Day celebrations

In Tokyo, the Kuwaiti Embassy in Japan held a grand reception attended by some 640 guests, including high-ranking politicians, businesspersons, academics and diplomats along with representatives of the Japan-Kuwait Society and prominent media figures at Tokyo's Imperial Hotel.
On the sidelines of the event, the guests were entertained by an exhibition of Kuwaiti heritage and culture presented by the embassy. The latest issue of Japan-Kuwait Society's newsletter was also handed to each guest.
Kuwaiti Ambassador to Japan Abdulrahman Al-Otaibi congratulated on this occasion His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and the Kuwaiti people.
While commending the great advancement in Kuwaiti-Japanese partnership, the ambassador expressed expectations for the success of the coming year of 2011, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
"Under the wise leaderships in both countries, Kuwaiti-Japanese relations will go through noticeable development in a wide range of fields," the ambassador said.
The guests at the reception congratulated the Kuwaiti leadership and people on the occasion, wishing the country further development and prosperity.
Japan is Kuwait's major trading partner, with two-way trade reaching USD 10. 53 billion in 2009. Kuwait's exports to Japan totaled USD 1.27 billion, and imports USD 9.26 billion last year, according to Japanese government data.
Last week, Kuwait and Japan signed a double-taxation avoidance agreement aimed at facilitating economic activity and investment in each other's country, the first of its kind between Japan and one of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.
Also, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah paid a visit to Japan in July 2008, which resulted in the creation of a joint ministerial committee between the two governments to further activate cooperation in all fields, particularly economic and commercial partnership.
